Barnardos New Zealand: Children come First
Barnardos has a vision that in Aotearoa New Zealand childhood is valued and every child's hope and potential are nurtured.
Our trained, experienced and staff work with thousands of children and families in communities throughout New Zealand, to ensure that children receive the care, support and education they deserve.
We do this through our child and family services, which include: parent education; Parent Help Line; foster care; social workers in schools; family support, an individually tailored social work support service which helps families identify issues and make changes to improve the wellbeing of their children; and children's contact, which enables children to spend time with their non-custodial parent in a supervised and safe environment.
Barnardos New Zealand is also the country's largest community-based provider of early childhood education and care. We run 20 Early Learning Centres, the KidStart home-based education and care service and Number One Nannies. Barnardos also provides after school and school holiday programmes in several communities.
Barnardos has joined forces with many other like-minded organisations and individuals in New Zealand to create Every Child Counts, an advocacy group which wants to ensure that in all areas of Government policy, children come first.
